I am the editor overseeing coverage of the global automotive industry for Reuters news. I also direct coverage of non-automotive manufacturers such as GE, Harley and Caterpillar. I collaborate with reporters in Silicon Valley, Europe and Asia to bring our readers a global perspective. Prior to joining Reuters in 2015, I worked for more than 20 years as a reporter and bureau chief at the Wall Street Journal. Most of that time was spent in Detroit, with tours of duty in Brussels and Washington, DC. I work mainly with words, but I enjoy doing television and video when I get the call, which is quite often now that the boundaries between print and video are dissolving. I am also fascinated by the disintegrating borders between the worlds of big machines and digital technology, and by the out-sized role that factories and the jobs they support play in political and economic policy debates.
